LUMI Architecture

For us sustainable architecture is more than CO2 reduction or green labelling, but also touches on themes such as biodiversity, water, flexibility, locality, health and design for disassembly.

We work from the premise that all good architecture is sustainable but not all sustainable architecture per se good! We believe that architecture should foremost be about people and that buildings relate to the context and the climate in which they stand. A house in Madagascar can never be the same as a house in the Dutch Polder.

Context – Culture – Concept

We strongly believe that modernism has brought society a lot, but that too much traditional knowledge was lost in the wake of this process of industrialization. We adhere to a new Renaissance where old knowledge and modern technology merge into beautiful sustainable buildings. In the words of Bertolt Brecht “It’s not a good idea to mix old and new wines but old and new knowledge mix remarkably well!”

In the process of housing people, families or companies we take on a systemic approach. A building is more than a shelter, it’s the centre stage for life, love and labour and should be regarded as such. Our strong interest in psychology, group dynamics and business consultancy helps us in this approach.

We love involving artists in our projects, but also light designers, landscape architects, artisans and other creatives from our broad network.
